I went to Kurashiki!!! (Part 1) I know the best spots in Kurashiki’s Bikan Historical Quarter because I actually went there!

Hello! I actually went to Kurashiki the other day!

I like Kyoto, but Kurashiki is also a very calm and wonderful place.

If you're thinking of going to Kurashiki, or even if you don't know anything about the city, be sure to read this!

{List of places I've been}

- "Meidaitonkatsu Kappa" is a super popular restaurant where you can enjoy the "Demi-katsu" recommended by Okayama Prefecture residents.

If you want to feel the history of Kurashiki and see a beautiful garden, head to "Katariza Ohara House (Former Ohara Family Residence)"!

- The ivy-covered building is beautiful! "Kurashiki Ivy Square"

Speaking of Okayama, it's all about fruit! Let's go to "Kurashiki Momoko"!

〇A treasure trove of masking tape! "Jochikudo"

- Highly entertaining! "Momotaro Karakuri Museum"

- "Meidaitonkatsu Kappa" is a super popular restaurant where you can enjoy the "Demi-katsu" recommended by Okayama Prefecture residents.

Before going to the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, I asked a friend from Okayama Prefecture if there were any popular foods in Okayama, and he said that "Demi Katsudon" was delicious, so I searched for a restaurant where I could eat "Demi Katsudon" near the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter! I found a restaurant where I could eat "Demi Katsu", although it wasn't a "Demi Katsudon"! The restaurant was called "Meidaitonkatsu Kappa". It was in a shopping street near the Bikan Historical Quarter. When I went there around noon, there was a huge line of people.

What is this? I asked the staff how long I would have to wait, and they said an hour and a half. That's so long. But I really wanted to eat demi-katsu, so I wrote my name down and made a reservation.

I didn't want to sit and wait for an hour and a half, so I wandered around Kurashiki's scenic area.

Wow, it's so beautiful. There are rows of historic houses, and it feels like you've traveled back in time. There are willow trees along the river, and people are floating in boats on the river.

Thinking that this is a famous view of Kurashiki, I took a picture. It was a wonderful shot.

I also wanted to go on a river boat ride, but when I went to the ticket booth, I was told that the tickets were fully booked until 4pm and I couldn't ride. Oh no. I'm so unlucky. Maybe it's because it's Saturday. I wasn't sure if I'd be in the scenic area until 4pm, so I gave up on going on a river boat ride.

An hour and a half later, we finally entered Meidaitonkatsu Kappa.

The most popular item is the Nadai Tontei. It is a pork cutlet with demi-glace sauce. This is the long-awaited "Demi-katsu". There is also a mini size, which has 100g of pork cutlet, which is 60g less than the Nadai Tontei. However, the price is a little cheaper. I think the Nadai Tontei is 1,400 yen and the mini size is 1,000 yen.

The food finally arrived. The portion of pork cutlet was larger than I expected. Even the mini size was quite filling. When I ate it, it was very crispy and juicy. Delicious!!

The demi-glace sauce was sweeter than I expected and not too thick.

Because it wasn't too strong, I was able to eat it all the way to the end without getting bored.

Thank you for the meal!

If you want to feel the history of Kurashiki and see a beautiful garden, head to "Katariza Ohara House (Former Ohara Family Residence)"!

Once we were full, we took a little walk around the scenic area.

While walking around, I came across a historic house! When I looked at the sign, I saw that it had a lovely garden.

I was curious about it so I decided to go in.

When I entered the dirt floor, I was surprised to see a famous quote hanging from the ceiling.

The words of the 5th generation Sohei, 6th generation Koshiro, 7th generation Magosaburo, and 8th generation Soichiro of the Ohara family such as "Be strong," "Persevere to the end and you will reach your goal," and "You must do it, and do it to the fullest" were all spoken. There were many heartfelt words.

As I walked further, I found a cube tree with a strange shape. At first, I didn't really understand it and just thought that it had pictures of various people on it. Then someone from the facility came and explained it to me. It seems that the trunk is made up of eight generations of the Ohara family, and the people involved in each generation are spread out around it. I was able to hear various stories, such as people who contributed to social welfare and people who became prodigal sons.

There was a lovely garden in the detached room. This is where Magosaburo the 7th enjoyed matcha tea and Soichiro the 8th enjoyed listening to records. It was a place where time passed slowly and I felt very comfortable.

A beautiful building with red bricks and ivy entwined around it! "Kurashiki Ivy Square"

A building with ivy entwined around red bricks. This appears to be a red brick hotel that was renovated from a spinning factory built in the Meiji period. The contrast between red and green ivy entwined around the red bricks is a very beautiful spot. I went in winter, so I wasn't able to see the green ivy. In autumn, the ivy turns orange. If you come in autumn, be sure to capture this rare sight on camera.

But even in winter, when there was no green ivy, I was able to take photos with the red bricks in the background. It was fun.

There was a music box store and a souvenir shop here, so we were able to enjoy a little shopping.

Speaking of Okayama, it's all about fruit! Let's go to "Kurashiki Momoko"!

They have a wide selection of jellies, puddings, baked goods and other items made with fruits from Okayama Prefecture, making them perfect souvenirs or gifts.

We operate five stores: the Main Store, Kurashiki Main Store, Kurashiki Central Store, Kurashiki Civic Hall Store, and Shirakabe Main Store.

〇A treasure trove of masking tape! "Jochikudo"

Kurashiki is the birthplace of masking tape. Nyochikudo, a paper goods store, carries about 850 types of masking tape. In addition to masking tape, there are also many other goods that will add color to your life, such as letter paper, paper balloons, and candles, so it's fun just to look at them.

- Highly entertaining! "Momotaro Karakuri Museum"

You can enjoy playing with tricks that use optical illusions and exploring Onigashima. You can also see Momotaro documents and collections, as well as pre-war Momotaro animation.
