Kyoto solo travel diary "Sightseeing <I ate a lot"

Hello. Have you ever traveled alone?

Recently, I, a female college student, went on a solo trip to Kyoto.

Well, I guess you could say I did a bit of sightseeing, but I ate a lot (lol).

A list of places I've been (or what I've eaten)

・I ate soft yuba omu rice at Omu House.

・[Bakery Ryugetsudo] Bakery

・[Demachi Futaba] Japanese sweets shop

・【mumokuteki-Mumokuteki】Instagrammable cafe

・Morning breakfast at a coffee shop called Kairo

・[Shinshindo] Bakery

The place I stayed at was my first ever capsule hotel!!!

I took the train from Kyoto Station and arrived at Demachiyanagi Station. The reason I went to Demachiyanagi Station was because I wanted to go to a restaurant that specializes in omelet rice called "Omura House". It was on the first floor of a brick apartment building two minutes' walk away. I wanted to eat their "Toro Yuba Omelet Rice".

The rice inside the fluffy egg is hijiki rice. The fluffy egg is topped with a generous amount of soft, runny yuba... It's a Japanese-style omurice dipped in dashi sauce! It feels like a taste unique to Kyoto. The wasabi adds a nice accent and is so delicious. I can't stop eating it.

It's also OK to have it without wasabi.

My stomach is full.

As I was walking, I discovered a delicious looking bakery nearby.

The place is called "Bakery Ryugetsudo". The first floor is a bakery and the second floor is a cafe.

I thought the shop was small, but it was spacious at the back.

They have a wide variety of breads, with most of them being large and reasonably priced.

I bought olive bread and walnut bread with bean paste filling.

There were whole olives in this hard bread. The olives tasted like they were soaked in alcohol. I wondered about the walnut bread with bean paste inside. Wow! There were a lot of walnuts underneath the bean paste!!!

The walnuts are fragrant and delicious!!!

I found a Japanese sweets shop called Demachi Futaba! There was a long line... It must be scary to go there during the day on a holiday.

It must be a popular shop because there is such a long line. I bought what I could for now and will eat later. I waited in line for 30 minutes. Finally I was able to buy some red rice and bean mochi. It was so hard! I was tired so I decided to eat after all (lol)

The red rice was 600 yen, and the bean mochi was 200 yen each. The bean mochi was filled with black beans. Come to think of it, I've often seen this in Kyoto tourist magazines. You'll never find such delicious bean mochi in a local supermarket. The sweetness of the bean paste mixed with the saltiness is the best.

I'll try the red rice too. It's got chestnuts and beans in it. It's really delicious. The glutinous rice is chewy and the chestnuts are more flavorful than I expected.

I head to Gion-Shijo to head to the hotel.

There are lots of couples along the river. How nice (tears)

There are so many people, it's a city after all...

Arriving at the capsule hotel

I forgot what the name of this hotel was.

Actually, I've never stayed in a capsule hotel.

There are lots of manga and it's like an internet cafe.

Other capsule hotels cost over 5,000 yen. The city is amazing. I'm glad I live in the countryside. But this capsule hotel was super cheap. Only 2,400 yen per night!!! Isn't that amazing? It's less than half the price of other capsule hotels!

When I went to the room, it was so small... (lol) It was only as wide as a single bed...

It was my first time to stay in such a small room. And the only partition was a curtain.

I'm being positive and think this is a good experience (lol). Plus, there are four electrical outlets, so it's fine. The lights are bare, so they're super bright. I'm super nervous about staying in a capsule hotel for the first time... I'll make sure to check the evacuation route. I'm not sure if this is really a hotel. It's like a closet.

I'm going to explore the capsule hotel a bit. Oh, I found some free earplugs! I'll take them. Come to think of it, I've never worn earplugs before. I'm a bit worried, but I don't want to be unable to sleep.

The bathroom has a shower booth and toilet in the shared space, and as a woman I was given my own key (^^) Drinks and ice cream are all-you-can-drink.

It was great that there were plenty of amenities like towels, pajamas, and lotion.

I didn't bring anything with me...

Have dinner here! A stylish cafe that specializes in meat-free menu items.

There was a "Stewed Hamburger" made of tofu hamburger steak with a demi-glace sauce made only from vegetables, a crispy "Miso Cutlet" made with okara and konjac, and a "Fried Okara Plate". I ordered the "Fried Okara Plate".

Here it comes! Miso and rice! And vegetables were served next to the fried chicken. Let's start with the most popular dish, the fried okara. Although it is fried chicken made from okara, it has a strong flavor like regular fried meat. Mmm, delicious!!! The water is detox water. For a moment, I became a fashionable girl.

My stomach is full. I'm going to go back to the hotel and sleep. Ah, but maybe I'll read some manga before going to sleep. The manga was so interesting that I read it until midnight and fell asleep before I knew it.

Good morning~ I was reading manga until late at night so it's already this late (lol)

Oh no, I won't make it in time for breakfast. I have to hurry.

We quickly got ready and headed to a coffee shop called Kairo.

This place has a breakfast menu that is limited to 10 meals per day. I thought I would arrive just in time, but I ended up arriving earlier than I thought. Thank goodness. I arrived early at 8:50, but the restaurant was already open. It doesn't open at 9, but around 9. Apparently the owner is famous for being cold and rude. As expected, he was as rude as I expected (lol).

The morning set I ordered has arrived.

Coffee, thick slices of toast (and a banana next to it), yogurt topped with large pieces of fruit, and vegetable juice - all this for just 450 yen. Isn't that really cheap?

The thick, crispy and chewy toast was cut into six pieces and topped with six different flavors of jam. It was perfect for someone like me who gets bored easily. The assortment of cut fruits was fresh, not canned. Ah, so luxurious.

I have to get home early because I have school in the afternoon.

This is the end of my solo trip. I feel sad.

But it was really fun. I ate a lot. I'm going to start dieting tomorrow.

I wonder where I should travel alone next.
