[2019] Graduation Hakama Hairstyles

●To all those graduating from universities, vocational schools, junior colleges, etc. in 2019.

For those of you who will be wearing hakama at the graduation ceremony, have you decided on your hairstyle yet? Wearing a hakama may be a once in a lifetime experience, so you want to pay attention to your hairstyle on this occasion. At the time, my hair was shoulder-length, so I remember staring back and forth between the pamphlet and the mirror, saying this and that. Nowadays, there are many styles introduced in various catalogs and on Instagram, but I think there are many people who do not know which style suits them. So this time, I would like to introduce hairstyles that suit each face shape and hair length.

First, let's talk about face types. There are three types of face we will introduce: round face, long face, and wide face. Check which type applies to you by matching the characteristics.

・Round face: When viewed from the front, the length and width are almost equal and the chin is round.

・Long face: When viewed from the front, the length is longer than the width.

・Hachibari: The sides of the head are angular, making it appear as if the head is spreading out to the sides.

Here's a simple explanation of how to measure the length and width. Check it out in the mirror.

Vertical width: Length from hairline to chin

Width: The length of the straight line connecting the protruding parts of both cheekbones

◇Round Face Edition◇

Round faces are said to be the most common among Japanese people. As the cheeks are the most prominent part of the face, it is recommended to create volume above the ears. If you have short hair, you can add layers to the top to add height, or if you have a bob, you can camouflage your round face by curlying the ends of your hair. If you have long hair, it's a good idea to add volume to the ends of your hair that are away from your face. Therefore, when creating a style, it's good to add height to the top so that your hair is visible from the top of your head. Also, curl the loose hair to add movement and cover your round face.

◇Long Face Edition◇

For those with long faces that have a silhouette that looks long vertically, the key is to create a style that makes the face look wider horizontally. Be careful with bangs, as some shapes can emphasize the length of the face. We don't recommend styles that directly show the shape of the face, such as center parts and swept-back bangs. Also, be careful with heavy blunt bangs, as they can make the long vertical hair flow more noticeable. Use soft styling to add volume around ear height, and be conscious of creating a diamond-shaped silhouette. When creating a style, it's a good idea to adjust the way you pull out your hair so that it's not visible from the top of your head. When doing a half-up style, it's good to roll up your loose hair in a fluffy manner.

◇Hachibari-san Edition◇

For those with wide temples that tend to make their entire face look large, we recommend styles with height on top. Avoid arrangements that make the sides stand out. It's best to style your hair with an image of going up as much as possible. It's best to part your bangs on the sides rather than in the center, but avoid wide bangs as they will emphasize the width of your face. For those with long hair, it's good to add volume below the chin. When creating a style, it's important to be conscious of adding volume to the back of the head while keeping the volume down on the sides, and to add height so that your hair is visible from the top of your head.

This may be a once in a lifetime experience, so be sure to use this article as a guide to finding the hairstyle that best suits your face shape.
