Introducing recommended restaurants for warm udon noodles

Winter is here. When it gets cold, doesn't it make you want to eat something that will warm you up?

So today, we'll be introducing you to a nice, warm udon restaurant where you can take a break during your stroll.

[Sunrise Udon]

Located near the Philosopher's Path and Eikando Temple, this restaurant is well-known for its curry udon. The "sweet age curry udon" is especially recommended. The chewy noodles are entangled in a rich broth roux, and the combination of the extra-large sweet tofu and spiciness is amazing and addictive.

[Benkei Higashiyama store]

This restaurant started as a food stall east of Gojo Ohashi Bridge, which is associated with Benkei. The signature dish is "Benkei Udon." It is made with a rich broth, sweet kitsune and beef, and spicy kinpira for an accent.

[Okaru]

Located in the center of the north side of Gion, this restaurant is popular among geisha and maiko. "Haikara" is the Kanto region's equivalent of tanuki udon, with tempura flakes, spring onions, and bonito flakes. Okaru's special "Haikara" is made with nori seaweed and has a taste unique to Gion, with a distinctive Kyoto-style elegant dashi flavor.

[Toji Udon]

This is a Kyoto-style udon restaurant near Toji Temple. The specialty "Toji udon" is made with a strong bonito stock and is very filling, with two shrimp tempura, sweet tofu, Kujo green onions, Kyoto yuba, and more.

[Matsunoya]

Located near Doshisha University, the restaurant has a wide variety of menu items. The recommended dish is the piping hot "Chige Nabe Udon" served in an iron pot. If you eat the noodles soaked in soup with an egg, the mild spiciness will spread in your mouth.

[Gontaro Shijo Main Branch]

This is a udon and soba specialty restaurant with its main store near Nishiki Market. Keiran Udon, which is made by mixing plenty of beaten egg into the sauce, is filled to the bottom of the bowl with fluffy egg, and when you eat it while mixing it with the udon, it will warm you from the inside out.

[Taste, flavor, aroma]

This is a curry udon restaurant that is popular in Kyoto. The sweet fox curry udon, which is popular among women, is made with sweet and spicy juicy fried tofu that is well soaked in curry broth. We also recommend trying different toppings to find your own unique taste.

Did that help clarify things?

Kyoto can be chilly. Warm yourself to the core with some hot udon noodles while you're out and about, and enjoy your trip to Kyoto in comfort.

And for those who are thinking of renting a kimono, there is a shop in front of Kyoto Station with excellent access to major tourist spots.

We recommend the kimono rental shop VASARA Kyoto Station (inside Hotel El Inn Kyoto).

We have a wide selection of outerwear, stoles, fleece tabi socks, and other items to protect you from the cold, so we look forward to your visit.
