[Hakata] Introducing Toka Ebisu Shrine, famous for bringing prosperity to business

Toka Ebisu Shrine is famous for being the god of business prosperity. It also has Daikoku, who ties the "fate" of happiness.

The Origins of Toka Ebisu Shrine

In 1591 (Tensho 19), Goemon, the retired head of the Takeuchi family, found a statue of Ebisu at the edge of the tide on his way back from visiting Kashii Shrine and Hakozaki Shrine. The following year, on January 10, 1592 (Bunroku 1), a shrine was built and Ebisu was enshrined, marking the beginning of this shrine.

Highlights of the New Year's Festival

Good luck

According to old documents, the throne has been held from the first year of the Bunroku era (1592) to the present day. Kaiun throne is a ceremony to celebrate the good fortune of the new year, and begins with the auspicious first ceremony at 10 am on January 9th, the shrine's grand festival, and one ritual after another is held until midnight on the 10th. Well-known people and worshippers from various fields are invited to the Kaiun throne, but anyone can also apply.

The lucky draw is a test of luck for the year. When you draw a lucky draw ticket, the caretaker's voice echoes throughout the shrine grounds, shouting "Big win!" The prizes handed out along with the lucky bamboo are all auspicious items such as papier-mâché lucky charms, lucky drawers, zodiac animals, gold treasures, and abacuses, so that everyone is sure to be blessed with good fortune.

Pilgrimage on foot

Hakata has long been known as Nanotsu and has prospered as a city of commerce and trade. One of the annual events in Hakata, the Kachi Mairi, which opens the New Year's flowers, is held on the afternoon of the 9th day of the New Year, the eve of Ebisu.

All the geisha from Hakata Kenban wear Shimada bottles with rice stalks on them, formal family crests, and hemlines, and carrying a Kachi Mairi flag at the front, they procession from the entrance to Higashi Park and walk to the shrine while playing the Toka Ebisu song accompanied by the shamisen, flutes, and drums of the Hakata Nanotsu-kai, where they pray for good fortune and prosperity in business throughout the year.

This time we introduced Toka Ebisu Shrine, which is famous for bringing prosperity to business and finding a partner.

The New Year's Festival will be held from January 8th to 11th next year. Why not come and visit in a kimono?
