[Hakata] Introducing Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and its surrounding spots

●Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is one of Fukuoka's tourist attractions. Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is famous for being the shrine of the god of learning and protection from evil spirits, and is revered throughout Japan. It is also a famous spot for plum blossoms, and is at its best from mid-February to early March, when the grounds are filled with cute red and white plum blossoms.

Besides plum blossoms, other seasonal flowers bloom here.

・Cherry Blossoms: late March to mid-April

・Kusunoki: Mid-April to late May

・Iris flowers: early June to mid-June

・Chrysanthemums: early November to early November

・Autumn leaves: Mid-November to early December

The changing nature of the four seasons adds color to the historical romance. It's perfect for visiting in a kimono, and you'll want to visit again and again in different seasons.

● Eat your way through the approach to the shrine

There are delicious Japanese sweets shops, cafes, and walking spots along the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and in the surrounding area, so we will introduce them here as well.

・Umegae mochi

Dazaifu is famous for its Umegae-mochi, and there are many shops selling them. On the 17th of every month, "Kyuhaku Day," they sell Umegae-mochi with ancient rice, and on the 25th of every month, "Tenjin-sama Day (Michizane's birthday)," they sell Umegae-mochi with mugwort.

The design was created by architect Kengo Kuma, who is known for his appealing Japanese-style work, based on the concept of "combining tradition and modernity through natural materials."

Kyushu National Museum

Located next to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, this is the fourth national museum in Japan. While the other three museums in Hakata are art museums, Kyushu National Museum was established as a history museum, as Kyushu was an important gateway for exchanges between Japan and Asian culture.
