When you think of Akihabara cuisine, what comes to mind? An omelet rice with doodles by a maid at a maid cafe? Or maybe a kebab? There are also plenty of ramen and curry restaurants! Akihabara is famous for its hearty meals, commonly known as "men's meals," but there are actually a lot of gourmet foods that you can enjoy in a kimono. In this article, we will introduce you to some Akihabara gourmet spots that you'll want to enjoy in a kimono!

Yokohama Kurikoan Akihabara store

There are several taiyaki shops in Akihabara, and one of them is Kurikoan. In addition to the traditional red bean paste, there are various flavors such as chestnut bean paste, which is the shop's name, and cream. Kurikoan's specialty is the unique flavors that are only sold seasonally. In spring, they sell cherry blossom cream and mugwort bean paste, and in summer, Furano melon cream and chocolate mint bean paste, which are flavors that are hard to find in other shops, but they are sold in limited quantities.

By the way, in the past they also sold Magikarp Yaki, which was inspired by the Pokemon Magikarp. In the summer they also sell soft serve ice cream, which is served with tiny taiyaki on top, making it very cute and photogenic. It's also close to Manseibashi, Akihabara's most famous photo spot, so it might be a good idea to take a photo with a taiyaki in hand!

◆Omusubi no GABA Akihabara store

A stylish rice ball specialty store. The rice used in this store is "GABA rice," which contains about 10 times more GABA, a type of amino acid called gamma aminobutyric acid, than white rice. It's great to have rice that's both delicious and good for you!

The rice balls come in a variety of fillings, including the standard plum, salmon, and mustard greens, as well as more unusual varieties like spam and foie gras, making it perfect for people who aren't satisfied with regular rice balls. You can take out the rice balls, but eating in is also recommended.

If you dine in, there is also a set menu that comes with miso soup. Why not relax in a kimono and enjoy Japanese cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere?

◆Bamboo Village

This sweet shop has a very tasteful exterior. In fact, Takemura is a historic shop that was founded in 1930 and has been designated as a Tokyo Metropolitan Historical Building. It's no wonder that the shop has such a tasteful exterior.

The specialty here is the delicious fried buns! They are neither too sweet nor too heavy, and have an exquisite, refined taste. Once you try them, you will definitely become a fan. Kanda Sudacho, where Takemura is located, is a picturesque area with many old buildings and a nostalgic streetscape that gives you a Showa-era feel. Just walking around in a kimono is a good idea. The interior of Takemura is also very atmospheric and lovely, but unfortunately photography is prohibited inside the store. Just burn the interior of the store into your eyes. (You can take photos of the sweets, but you can do so after asking the staff.) As an aside, Takemura is also famous for being the filming location for "Kamen Rider Hibiki" and the setting for the anime "Love Live!". For that reason, it is a recommended spot for those who like pilgrimages to sacred sites.

Address: 1-19 Kanda Sudacho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo
