The Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival, a seasonal event that colors Kanazawa in early summer, will be held again this year for three days from Friday, May 31st to Sunday, June 2nd, 2024.
This time we will introduce the Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival, which attracts many visitors from all over Japan and overseas.
The Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival is the largest event in Kanazawa, held every June to commemorate the entry of Maeda Toshiie, the founder of the Kaga clan, into Kanazawa Castle.
The main event is the spectacular "Hyakumangoku Procession"! The Hyakumangoku Procession starts in front of the Tsuzumi Gate in the East Plaza of Kanazawa Station, and takes place over a four-hour parade through Ishikawa Gate before entering Kanazawa Castle. Every year, famous actors dress up as Maeda Toshiie and entertain the spectators along the route.
After the "Hyakumangoku Procession" ends, the "Hyakumangoku Odori Nagashi" begins in the evening. Over 100 teams from companies and cultural organizations dance their way through the streets, brightening up the evening in Kanazawa.
During the Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival, many food stalls are set up every year, which is also very popular as one of the highlights of the festival.
In addition, to coincide with the Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival, on Saturday, June 1st, Kanazawa Castle Park and Kenrokuen will be lit up for a limited time as part of the "Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Four Seasons Story: Early Summer Edition."
Admission to the garden is free during the illumination hours, so you can enjoy the fantastic nighttime atmosphere of Kenrokuen, which is different from the daytime.
