Kimono rental VASARA (Head office: Sotokanda, Chiyoda-ku) held a joint industry-academia event with Tokyo Mode Gakuen to announce this summer's new style of "unisex yukata" and "trend yukata". The runway models were SKE48 (Inoue Ruka, Ego Yuna, Okamoto Ayaka, Suenaga Ouka, Hidaka Yuzuki, Furuhata Nao). A new way to enjoy yukata that evolves with the times was announced at the Tokyo Mode Gakuen Cocoon Hall. In addition, students from the Fashion Design and Fashion Technology departments presented "next-generation contemporary yukata costumes", which were a lineup of their best work created as part of their classes using yukatas provided by VASARA. Students from the Makeup department proposed hair and makeup to match the costumes, and under the guidance of a current hair and makeup instructor, they applied the makeup to the models on the day, completing a perfect look.

This idol group was formed in 2008 as the first step in the nationwide expansion of AKB48, which is based in Akihabara, Tokyo. Furuhat, who has the dual qualities of being both "cute" and "cool," said, "I've always wanted to wear a unisex, masculine, cool yukata. I hope that this yukata will become more widely known and become more accessible."

At VASARA YUKATA SHOW, SKE48's Yuzuki Hidaka and Nao Furuhata wore unisex yukatas. "We want everyone to be able to enjoy yukata freely, like fashion," is the special thought behind the development of these yukatas. The reason we resized the men's yukata to fit women is based on the feedback we received from our customers.

There was a certain demand for male customers to wear women's yukatas and female customers to wear men's yukatas, not just Western clothing. However, when women tried to wear men's yukatas, they had trouble doing so well. Because the width of the body was designed to fit the shoulder width of men, the sleeves were too long and the upper body was loose. This also led to the issue of the chest area being easily exposed.

To solve this problem, a Japanese dressmaker adjusted each yukata and remade them into unisex yukata. Each yukata is painstakingly crafted to fit women well, is comfortable to wear, and looks stylish.

Furthermore, this time we have not only adjusted the size, but also developed new items that can be worn stylishly. We have adopted a heko obi belt, and added long hanging fringes that sway when walking. We have also used two colors and combined different designs to create an original feel that is unique to VASARA. We have also created anklets, adding a stylish item that takes your feet to the next level. With our carefully crafted unisex yukata, we hope to make yukata more familiar to everyone and increase the number of people who can enjoy it freely.
